Easy money sounds too-good-to-be-true, but we all want it. Many people are sucked in by the idea of a paid online survey. They see hope for a windfall that happens by sitting on a chair at home and answering a few questions between video games on the computer. They fill out a couple of paid surveys and wait for the cash to start rolling in. The truth is: the amount of money that actually comes from a paid online survey is pretty small and the process to get that money isn’t worth the hassle.

For those who take online surveys, there is a certain way to fill them out that can make answering several paid online surveys an hour a possibility. Many people have shortcuts that they use as they take online surveys, making it easier to earn money by answering faster to move onto the next survey. Most people, however, only rely on the point-and-click method of filling out survey after survey, making the money flow insignificant, considering the amount of work required. 

A paid online survey will not make the person filling it out rich. Still, while there may be no empires built on the backs of survey takers, some people find that they can make a reasonable amount of extra income. Better than a kick in the pants, they say. For those already at home and doing nothing anyway, taking paid surveys online can bring in some decent money. 

Many people wonder where the information for a paid online survey ends up. The reality is that marketing companies pay big money for that information and they, in turn, pass that information onto other big businesses. Manufacturers are scrambling for new ways to sell products, and the paid online survey may provide a clue as to what people will pay more money for. 

Paid online surveys certainly benefit sales teams and marketing companies, but how beneficial are they to the general public? Are the new products created based on online survey information truly what people want, or are they the result of someone’s point-and-click methodology of trying to earn a few dollars? Do survey takers who fill out hundreds really care what they click on?  

The reality behind taking a paid online survey is that the survey taker may end up only earning five or ten dollars unless they invest a lot of time. They usually have to provide address information and other personal information in exchange for the cash, thus sacrificing privacy and possibly subjecting themselves to junk mail or unnecessary phone calls. Those who complete paid online surveys in large quantities say that the money does add up after some time, but those are individuals who are doing surveys as a near full-time job.
